Requesting and managing location access

Overview


Participating in events on The Secret Society requires being approved for the specific location where those events take place. Location access is not automatically granted — it must be requested by the user and reviewed by the platform. This article explains why this system exists, how to request access, and how to manage your locations once approved.




Why Location Access Is Not Automatic


The Secret Society operates across multiple international markets, each with its own set of venues, standards, and participant requirements. Access is managed per location to ensure that:


Demand is managed effectively. Different cities have different capacities, and the platform needs to manage how many users are approved per market to ensure event quality.


Profile relevance is assessed per market. What makes a user a good fit for events in Dubai may differ from what makes them a good fit for Bali or London. Location-specific review allows the platform to match the right users to the right markets.


Users are shown relevant opportunities. Rather than flooding your feed with events from cities you have no interest in or plans to visit, the location-based access system ensures you only see events in markets you have actively chosen.


Quality is maintained. By reviewing each access request, the platform can ensure that approved users in each market meet the standards expected by venues in that city.




How to Request Access to a Location


Requesting access is a straightforward process done through your profile settings:


  1. Open the app and navigate to your Profile
  2. Open the top-right menu (typically a hamburger icon or settings button)
  3. Select "Manage your location"
  4. Browse the available locations — you will see both active markets and upcoming ones
  5. Request access for active locations by submitting a request
  6. Express interest in upcoming locations by tapping "I am Interested"


Once you submit a request, your profile is flagged for review for that specific market. The platform will assess your profile and determine whether you are a suitable fit for events in that city.




Requesting Access to Active Locations


Active locations are cities where The Secret Society is already fully operational. Events are happening, venues are partnered, and the platform is live in that market.


When you request access to an active location:


  • Your request is submitted for review
  • The platform assesses your profile against the standards for that market
  • If approved, the location is unlocked and you can begin seeing and participating in events there


Approval is not guaranteed. It depends on your profile quality, your activity history on the platform, and the demand in that specific market. Maintaining a strong, complete profile and a solid track record on the platform improves your chances of approval.




Expressing Interest in Upcoming Locations


Upcoming locations are cities where The Secret Society is preparing to launch but has not yet gone fully live. These appear in the app as "launching soon" or "coming soon."


For upcoming locations, the action is different: instead of requesting access, you express interest. This registers your desire to participate in that market once it opens.


Expressing interest in an upcoming location:


  • Adds you to the pool of users to be reviewed when that market launches
  • Signals your intent to participate in that city
  • May give you an advantage in being among the first users approved when the location goes live


Early engagement with upcoming locations is strategic. The platform will likely prioritize users who showed genuine interest before launch when it begins approving participants for a new market.




What Happens After You Request Access


After submitting a request or expressing interest, there are a few things to keep in mind:


Review takes time. Approval is not instant. The platform reviews requests against current capacity and profile standards, and this process may take time.


You will be notified of the outcome. When your request is reviewed, you will receive a notification about whether access has been granted.


Approval is not guaranteed. Even a strong profile does not ensure immediate approval for every location. Demand, capacity, and fit all play a role.


You can request multiple locations. If you travel frequently or are interested in multiple markets, you can request access to more than one location at a time.




What Approval Means


When your access request is approved for a location:


  • That city becomes available in your location selector at the top of the app
  • Events happening in that market become visible in your feed
  • You can show interest in, receive invitations for, and attend events in that city


Approval effectively unlocks the market for you. From that point on, you can participate in events there just as you would in any location you already have access to.




How to Switch Between Locations


Once you have been approved for multiple locations, you can move between them easily using the location selector at the top of the app. The selector allows you to choose which market's events are displayed in your feed.


To explore events in a different city:


  1. Tap the location selector at the top of the app
  2. Choose the city you want to explore
  3. Your feed will update to show events available in that market


If a city is not appearing in your selector, it means you have not yet been approved for that location. Submit a request through the "Manage your location" section if you have not done so already.




Tips for Getting Approved


Complete your profile thoroughly. A complete profile gives the platform and venues the information they need to assess your suitability. Incomplete profiles are less likely to be approved, especially for competitive markets.


Build a track record on the platform first. If you are new, focus on participating well in your initial approved locations before requesting access to many new ones. A history of attending events, completing deliverables, and maintaining a Strike-free account strengthens your profile significantly.


Be selective about which locations you request. Requesting access to cities you genuinely plan to visit or live near is more meaningful than bulk-requesting every available location. Relevance matters.


Express interest in upcoming locations early. For cities that have not yet launched, expressing interest during the pre-launch phase positions you well for early approval.




Why Managing Your Locations Matters


Your location settings determine what you see on the platform. If you are planning to travel to a new city, requesting access well in advance ensures you will have events visible and available by the time you arrive.


If you want to participate in multiple markets, proactively managing your location access is essential. The platform does not automatically add new cities to your profile — you must take action.


Think of location management as an ongoing part of using the platform effectively, not a one-time setup step.
