Showing interest in locations

Overview

Showing interest is not limited to events. On The Secret Society, you can also express interest in upcoming locations — cities where the platform is preparing to launch. This is a strategic action that positions you for early access when a new market opens. This article explains why location interest matters, how it works, and how to use it effectively.

Why Location Access Is Managed Separately

The Secret Society operates across multiple international markets, and access to each one is managed independently. Being approved for one city does not grant you automatic access to another. Each market has its own review process, its own capacity considerations, and its own standards.

This design ensures that:

  • Events in each market maintain appropriate quality and participant fit
  • The platform can manage demand effectively per city
  • Users see only events in markets they are genuinely interested in

Because location access requires active action on your part, understanding how to navigate this system is essential to expanding your reach across multiple markets.

The Difference Between Active and Upcoming Locations

Active locations are cities where the platform is already fully operational. Events are happening, venues are live, and users can participate once approved. For active locations, you submit a formal access request.

Upcoming locations are cities where The Secret Society is preparing to launch but has not yet gone live. For these, you cannot yet submit a full access request — instead, you express interest to signal your desire to participate when the market opens.

The action is slightly different, but the strategic logic is the same: early, proactive engagement with a market — whether active or upcoming — positions you better than doing nothing and waiting.

How Showing Interest in a Location Works

For upcoming locations, showing interest works similarly to showing interest in an event: you are adding yourself to a pool of users who want to be considered for access when the location becomes available.

To express interest in an upcoming location:

  1. Go to your Profile
  2. Open the top-right menu
  3. Select "Manage your location"
  4. Find the upcoming city you are interested in
  5. Tap "I am Interested"

This registers your intent with the platform. You are telling the system that when this market opens, you want to be among the first users reviewed for access.

How Location Interest Affects Your Chances of Approval

Expressing interest in an upcoming location before it launches increases your chances of being reviewed early when the market opens. This is because:

It demonstrates genuine intent. Users who expressed interest in a city before it launched have shown proactive engagement. This is a signal the platform pays attention to.

It positions you for early review. When a new market launches, the platform needs to approve an initial cohort of participants. Users who have already expressed interest are natural candidates for that first wave of reviews.

It gives the platform demand data. The number of users interested in a specific city helps the platform understand where to focus its expansion energy and how quickly to activate a market.

However, as with event interest, expressing location interest does not guarantee access. Approval still depends on your profile quality, your activity history, and the platform's assessment of your suitability for that market. It improves your chances; it does not confirm your place.

Why You Should Express Interest in Upcoming Locations Early

Timing matters. Expressing interest in a city before it launches puts you in a stronger position than waiting until after the city goes live and then requesting access along with everyone else.

Think of it in three phases:

Phase 1 — Pre-launch interest: You express interest in a city that has not yet launched. Your name is in the pool from the beginning. When the city opens, you are already in queue.

Phase 2 — Launch wave: The city goes live. Users who expressed pre-launch interest are reviewed first. If your profile is strong, you may be among the first approved.

Phase 3 — Post-launch requests: Other users who did not express interest now submit access requests. They are reviewed after the initial wave. They may wait longer and face more competition.

Getting into Phase 1 is simply a matter of checking the "Manage your location" section regularly and expressing interest in cities that align with your travel plans or aspirations.

Which Upcoming Locations Should You Express Interest In?

Express interest in locations that are genuinely relevant to you. Relevant factors include:

Places you live or frequently visit — If you spend time in a city regularly, having access when the market launches means you can participate without delay.

Places you plan to visit — If you are planning a trip to a city that is launching soon, expressing interest now means access may be ready by the time you arrive.

Cities that align with your content style — Some markets have a particular character — coastal luxury, urban culture, nightlife, fine dining — that may align more naturally with your profile and content approach.

Cities you aspire to participate in — Even if you do not have immediate plans, expressing interest in aspirational markets is low-effort and positions you well for the future.

Showing Interest in Locations vs. Active Locations

For active locations, the process is more formal: you submit an access request that goes through a review process. Approval timelines may vary depending on platform capacity and demand in that city.

For upcoming locations, the process is lighter: you tap "I am Interested" and your expression of intent is registered. Formal review happens when the city launches.

Both actions are worth taking. For any city you want access to — whether live or upcoming — the right move is always to register your interest as early as possible.

Keeping Your Profile Strong While You Wait

Expressing interest in a location is only one part of the equation. The platform will review your overall profile when determining whether to approve you for a new market. This means that what you do on the platform in the meantime matters.

To improve your chances of approval when upcoming locations open:

  • Attend events in your currently approved locations and complete deliverables thoroughly
  • Maintain a Strike-free account
  • Keep your profile complete and up to date
  • Engage consistently rather than sporadically

A strong, active participant is far more likely to be approved for new markets than an inactive one — regardless of when they expressed interest.

Summary

Showing interest in upcoming locations is a proactive step that positions you for early access when new markets launch. It works through the "Manage your location" section of your profile, where you can tap "I am Interested" for cities not yet live on the platform. While it does not guarantee access, it demonstrates genuine intent and increases your chances of being reviewed in the early waves of approval when a city opens. Express interest in cities that are genuinely relevant to you — places you live, travel to, or plan to visit — and continue building a strong profile in the meantime to maximize your chances of approval.
