Event lifecycle
Overview
Every event on The Secret Society follows a structured lifecycle with clearly defined stages. Each stage requires specific actions, and missing a step can affect your booking, your participation, and ultimately your account standing. This guide walks you through the full lifecycle from start to finish — helping you understand not just what to do, but why each step exists and how they connect.
Stage 1: Discovering Events and Showing Interest
The lifecycle begins when you discover an event in the app. Events are visible in your feed based on the locations you have been approved for — so if you are not seeing events in a particular city, it likely means you need to request access to that location first.
When you find an event you would like to attend, the first action you can take is to show interest. This places your profile into the pool of users being considered for invitations.
What showing interest does:
- Signals to the platform that you want to attend
- Adds you to the consideration pool for invitations
- Increases your visibility and chances of being selected
What showing interest does not do:
- Reserve a spot
- Confirm your attendance
- Guarantee an invitation
This stage is about expressing intent. The selection process that follows is based on multiple factors, including your profile, activity history, and relevance to the event.
Stage 2: Receiving an Invitation
If the platform determines that you are a suitable match for the event, you will receive a formal invitation. This means you have been selected from among those who showed interest, based on your profile and other relevant factors.
Receiving an invitation does not secure your spot — it is an offer that you must respond to. You must now decide whether to accept.
Before you accept, review:
- Event timing — can you attend without conflicts?
- Deliverables — can you complete them within 24 hours of attending?
- Guest requirements — is a guest required, optional, or not allowed?
- Dress code and event rules — do you meet the requirements?
- Confirmation window — will you be able to confirm when the window opens?
Only accept if you can confidently commit to every one of these requirements.
Stage 3: Accepting the Invitation
When you tap accept, your booking enters a provisional state. The event moves into the "To Confirm" section, not into a confirmed status. Acceptance alone does not secure your spot.
At this stage:
- Your interest has been formalized into a booking
- A second confirmation step is now required
- Your spot can still be released if you do not confirm
Think of acceptance as step one of a two-step commitment process.
Stage 4: The "To Confirm" Stage
After accepting, your event lives in the "To Confirm" section of the app. This is a critical stage where action is required from you within a specific timeframe.
The confirmation window typically opens 24 hours before the event, but the exact timing is shown in the "To Confirm" section and should be treated as the definitive reference.
What to do during this stage:
- Check the "To Confirm" section regularly
- Note when the confirmation window is set to open
- Confirm your attendance as soon as the window opens
- Do not wait until the last moment
What happens if you miss the window:
Your booking is released. Your spot is no longer reserved and will be given to another user.
Missing the confirmation window is one of the most common reasons users lose bookings they were genuinely excited about. Set a reminder and act promptly.
Stage 5: Confirmed — The "To Visit" Stage
Once you have confirmed your attendance, your booking is officially secured. The event moves from "To Confirm" into the "To Visit" section — the final stage before attending.
At this point, you are a confirmed attendee. The platform and the venue are expecting you.
Before leaving for the event:
- Verify the event appears in "To Visit"
- Ensure your QR code loads correctly
- Charge your phone fully
- Re-read the event rules, dress code, and deliverables
- Confirm any guest arrangements
Preparation at this stage directly affects the smoothness of your check-in and the quality of your participation.
Stage 6: Arriving and Checking In
When you arrive at the venue, the first thing you must do is check in. Do not get settled, order drinks, or begin exploring before completing this step.
How to check in:
- Open the app
- Navigate to your event in "To Visit"
- Display your QR code
- Present it to venue staff
- Identify yourself as a Secret Society attendee
Check-in is mandatory. Without it:
- Your attendance is not recorded
- Your deliverables do not activate
- You may be treated as a no-show by the system
Complete check-in immediately upon arrival, every time, without exception.
Stage 7: Attending the Event
With check-in complete, you are now an active, verified participant. Enjoy the event, but remain mindful of your deliverable requirements throughout.
If your deliverables involve content creation:
- Think about what you need to capture
- Take photos or videos while at the venue
- Note any specific elements required by your deliverable blocks
- Ensure your guest (if attending with one) also captures their required content
Arriving with a content plan makes delivery much easier than trying to reconstruct the experience afterwards.
If any issues arise during the event — with staff, the experience, or other guests — handle them calmly and report concerns to the support team after the event. Do not escalate conflicts at the venue.
Stage 8: Completing Deliverables — The "To Deliver" Stage
Once you have checked in and attended the event, your deliverables become active. They appear in the "To Deliver" section of the app.
The rules:
- All deliverables must be completed within 24 hours of the event
- Each deliverable block must be completed individually — they cannot be combined or skipped
- Content must match the specific requirement of each block
- All required tags, captions, and elements must be included
Tips for smooth delivery:
- Begin working on deliverables immediately after the event
- Use the "To Deliver" section as your task list
- Submit with time to spare — do not cut close to the deadline
- Review each block's instructions before uploading
If you have a guest, their deliverables are your responsibility. Coordinate with them before and after the event to ensure their content is captured and submitted correctly.
Stage 9: QC Review and Potential Correction
After submitting your deliverables, they enter quality control (QC) review. The QC team checks your submissions against the event's requirements.
If your deliverables are approved — your participation is complete. The event cycle closes successfully.
If your deliverables are rejected — you will receive a notification with specific feedback. You then have a 12-hour correction window to fix and resubmit.
Treat rejection notifications as urgent. The 12-hour window is short, and ignoring the notification until it is too late results in a Strike.
Stage 10: Completion
When your deliverables have been accepted by QC, your participation in the event is complete. You have successfully:
- Shown interest and been invited
- Accepted and confirmed your attendance
- Arrived, checked in, and attended
- Completed and submitted all deliverables to the required standard
Each successful completion strengthens your profile, improves your reliability score, and increases your chances of receiving future invitations.
How the Stages Connect
Understanding the lifecycle as a connected sequence — not a collection of independent steps — is key to succeeding on the platform.
Each stage depends on the one before it:
- Deliverables cannot activate without check-in
- Check-in cannot happen without a confirmed booking
- Confirmation cannot happen without acceptance
- Acceptance cannot happen without an invitation
- Invitations are shaped by the quality of your profile and the depth of your engagement
Failing at any stage affects the stages that follow. This is why each step — no matter how small it might seem — deserves your full attention.
