Guest Policy
Overview
Some events on The Secret Society allow or require an additional guest. Whether bringing a guest is mandatory, optional, or prohibited depends on the specific event. Understanding the guest policy is critical before accepting any invitation, because your responsibilities as the booking holder extend to your guest's participation — including their deliverables.
The Three Guest Categories
Every event falls into one of three categories when it comes to additional guests:
1. Guest Required
Some events are designed for two participants. If an event falls into this category, you must bring an additional guest. Attending solo when a guest is required may result in complications at check-in or affect your ability to fully participate.
If you cannot bring a guest to a guest-required event, do not accept the invitation. Accepting and then arriving alone puts you in breach of the event's conditions.
2. Guest Optional
Some events allow you to bring an additional guest if you choose, but do not require it. You can attend solo or with a companion — the choice is yours.
If you decide to bring a guest to an optional-guest event, be aware that additional deliverable blocks may apply. Review the deliverable requirements to understand whether bringing a guest adds to your post-event responsibilities.
3. No Guest Allowed
Some events are strictly solo. No additional guests are permitted, and attempting to bring one may result in being turned away at the venue.
Always check this requirement before accepting and before making any plans to attend with someone else.
How to Find the Guest Requirement for an Event
The guest requirement is clearly stated in the event details section. Before accepting any invitation, open the event description and look for the guest policy.
Do not assume. Events that seem similar may have different guest rules. Always read the specific requirements for each event individually.
Why Guest Requirements Matter Before Accepting
The guest policy is one of the most important details to check before accepting an invitation, because it affects your ability to meet the conditions of the event.
If you accept a guest-required event and then discover you cannot bring a guest, your options are limited:
- Cancelling within the 4-hour window avoids a strike but means you lose your spot
- Cancelling less than 4 hours before the event is a late cancellation and results in a Strike
- Attending without the required guest may create issues at the venue
Avoiding this situation entirely is simple: always check the guest requirement before accepting.
Who Is Responsible for a Guest's Behaviour
When you bring a guest to an event, you are responsible for their conduct while at the venue. This includes:
- Ensuring they understand and comply with the dress code
- Ensuring they behave appropriately and professionally at the venue
- Ensuring they do not disrupt the event or create a negative experience for the venue or other attendees
Your guest's behaviour reflects on you as the booking holder. Poor conduct by a guest can create issues for your account, even if you personally behaved appropriately.
Brief your guest thoroughly before attending. Tell them what to expect, how to present themselves, and what is and is not appropriate at the venue.
Deliverables and Guest Responsibility
This is perhaps the most important aspect of the guest policy to understand: the booking holder is fully responsible for all deliverables, including those assigned to the additional guest.
Many events with guest attendance have deliverable blocks for both the booking holder and the guest. These are separate requirements, and both must be fulfilled.
Even though the guest creates the content, it is your responsibility as the booking holder to ensure:
- Your guest understands what content they need to create before arriving at the venue
- Your guest captures the necessary content during the event
- You collect the content from your guest after the event
- You upload the content into the correct guest deliverable blocks in the app
- You do this within the 24-hour deliverable deadline
If the guest's deliverables are missing, incomplete, or rejected, the consequences fall on your account — not the guest's. There is no mechanism for transferring responsibility to the guest.
How to Coordinate With Your Guest on Deliverables
Successful guest deliverables require clear communication before, during, and after the event.
Before the event:
- Share the deliverable requirements with your guest
- Explain what content they need to create (type, format, tagging requirements)
- Make sure they know how to capture what is needed during the event
During the event:
- Remind your guest to capture their required content
- Check in with them during the experience to ensure they are getting what they need
- If you notice they are not capturing content, prompt them — it is your responsibility to ensure it happens
After the event:
- Collect all content from your guest promptly (share via message, AirDrop, or any convenient method)
- Review their content to ensure it meets the requirements before uploading
- Upload into the correct guest deliverable blocks within the 24-hour window
This level of coordination may feel like additional effort, but it is a non-negotiable part of attending an event with a guest.
What Happens If Guest Deliverables Are Incomplete
If guest deliverables are not submitted, are submitted incorrectly, or are rejected and not corrected within the 12-hour window, the consequences are the same as for any other missed deliverable:
- A Strike is applied to your account (the booking holder's account)
- Your account is temporarily deactivated
The guest has no separate standing on the platform in relation to your booking. Their failure is your failure in the eyes of the system.
Choosing Your Guest Wisely
Given the level of responsibility involved, it is worth being thoughtful about who you bring to events. An ideal guest is someone who:
- Understands and respects the venue environment
- Is comfortable with the event format and dress code
- Can reliably create and share the required content
- Is available for the full event and can commit without last-minute cancellations
Bringing someone unfamiliar with the expectations — or someone who is unlikely to follow through on their content requirements — creates avoidable risk for your account.
Summary
Events on The Secret Society fall into three guest categories: guest required, guest optional, and no guest allowed. Always check this requirement before accepting an invitation. As the booking holder, you are fully responsible for your guest's conduct and their deliverables. Even though the guest creates the content, collecting it, reviewing it, and submitting it is your responsibility. Failure to submit guest deliverables correctly results in a Strike on your account. Choose guests who are reliable and prepared, brief them thoroughly before attending, and coordinate closely on content creation during and after the event.
